I never thought I’d find myself working with rosewood because it is so rare and expensive, but a friend gave me some odd-sized cutoffs that had been laying around his shop for decades. The story behind the wood is interesting. It was used to hide a batch of narcotics smuggled into the U.S. in the 1970s and the ship transporting it was seized by the government. The rosewood was sold via government auction and my friend purchased some of it. Fast forward 50 years and I am making bread lames and knife handles out of this unique and beautiful wood.

Sustainability is important to me and I primarily use materials like shed antlers that I find while wandering the Rocky Mountains or or wood scavenged from friends and neighbors when they have to remove trees from their yards. My packaging is either reused, compostable, or recyclable (paper or cardboard).
